About

Look Closer

Canadian vocalist and songwriter Iain Mannix believes pop music can make uncomfortable emotions that we often avoid much easier to sit with and ultimately understand. Raised on musical theatre, he was rarely without a melody running through his head, and it was in watching musicals that he first fell in love with lyrical storytelling.

Upon meeting acclaimed electronic artist Veela, who recognized his innate musical sensibilities, she encouraged him to write and record original toplines for producers and DJs. Since then, Mannix has built an impressive collaborative pedigree, working across genres with a diverse roster of artists including Electro-Light, Keyboard Kid, Astra King, Electric Joy Ride, and Dan Bull.

“Broken hearts are reimagined as overflowing candy jars, dead end relationships become cavity-riddled teeth…”

Rather than writing in direct autobiography, he transforms his lived experience through visual metaphor. Broken hearts are reimagined as overflowing candy jars, dead end relationships become cavity-riddled teeth, and profound despair transforms into an undeniable force that still pulls the listener to the dance floor. By creating enough distance through artifice, he hopes others can engage with emotions that they previously closed their eyes to.

Currently, Mannix is actively mining years of unreleased material, meticulously reworking old demos as he builds momentum toward his first full-length project. Simultaneously, he remains deeply embedded in his local community, accompanying and photographing regional performance artists while editing visual content for their social platforms and independent online publications. Across music, digital media, and live events, Iain Mannix extends a constant, open invitation to any observer: look into his world, or better yet, step inside.
